Dear Ambassador

Welcome to the latest Ambassador newsletter.

We are excited to announce that we’ve reached our initial milestone of 1,000 Ambassadors. Thank you to everyone who has signed up – read more below and find out about our new initiative to encourage friends and family members to join us.

You can also read here about a new feature, the ‘Charity of the Month.’ There are countless organisations in Cornwall worthy of attention, all doing work to support their local communities and the people within them. Each month, we’ll be profiling a charity in Cornwall providing much needed help to people in our county who are in need – particularly important during this cost of living crisis.

Thank you for your support, and as ever, if you have any comments, feedback or suggestions for new stories, please do get in touch.

Best wishes,

Cornwall UK

Reaching 1000 Ambassadors!

From the beginning of the project, our aim has been to bring together those who care passionately about Cornwall.

In a bid to change perceptions of the Duchy, we have now set an ambitious new target of 20,000 Ambassadors.

Over 1000 Ambassadors have signed up to date via the website. The majority are local people but many others live across the UK and abroad, in countries such as Nigeria, Ireland, Japan, China, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

Read more about this signfiicant milestone here.

Our Charity of the Month – Cornwall Community Foundation

Cornwall Community Foundation’s aim is to change people’s lives for the better by developing the strength of local communities. We want a Cornwall free of poverty and social isolation.

We look for non-profit, grassroots organisations and aid them financially by raising funds from individuals and businesses both in and outside of Cornwall. We work closely with our supporters to ensure that their donations reach the groups that make the greatest difference.

During the pandemic people who live in or love Cornwall rose magnificently to the challenge and continue to do so. In 2021 that generosity meant we could support 650 community groups across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with grants totalling £2.2 million.

The need for our services is now greater than ever as people who were already struggling are now faced with the cost of living crisis.  Monique Collins, Manager of the Drop In And Share Centre (DISC), based in Newquay, who have received grants to support their works reports, “At DISC we have seen a 300% increase in demand for cooked meals as well as vegetables and fruit. Our electric top-ups have trebled and we have to deal with more and more people facing eviction and debt.”

To help us support the people in greatest need, we are appealing for donations to POVERTY HURTS – Cornwall’s costs of living crisis appeal. Funds raised will enable grassroots community groups meet the needs of the people they support.

Support Us

As you probably know, we are not-for-profit and entirely self-funded, so although we are eager to ensure that there will never be a fee to be an Ambassador, we would really appreciate you considering a small regular contribution towards the costs of maintaining the website as well as our wider plans around the promotion of Cornwall worldwide.

Just go to cornwall.uk/support-us/ and do what you can, however small!

Sign Up Friends and Family!

We are launching a new initiative to get every Ambassador to sign up friends and family members to the scheme. If every Ambassador signed up two more people, we would be well on our way to our next interim goal of 5,000 Amassadors and, of course, far closer to our eventual target of 20,000.

The Ambassador section on our website provides more information on how to join up using the ‘Become an Ambassador’ link. Here, you can also find our logos and brand assets for your use, as well as get access to previous newsletters and specific Ambassador news.
