Cornwall welcomes Irish Minister

Cornwall is continuing to strengthen its international connections, with a two-day visit from Irish Minister of State Frank Feighan, creating new opportunities for collaboration between Cornwall and Ireland.

We were delighted to welcome Frank Feighan, Irish Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, to Cornwall at the invitation of Cllr Leigh Frost, Leader of Cornwall Council.

The visit followed an initial meeting between the two in Lorient during the Interceltic Festival and was an opportunity to explore where Cornwall and Ireland could work more closely together.

Over two days, the Minister met businesses, organisations and local representatives and saw some of Cornwall’s strengths in critical minerals, floating offshore wind, maritime industries, technology and regional connectivity.

He was joined at different points during the visit by Perran Moon, MP for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle, Jayne Kirkham MP for Truro and Falmouth, Cllr Leigh Frost and Cllr Tim Dwelly, with conversations focused on shared interests and opportunities for future collaboration.

Cornwall has knowledge, expertise and businesses with genuine international relevance. Building relationships like these opens new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and investment.

New contacts have been made and conversations started. We look forward to building on them and strengthening the relationship between Cornwall and Ireland.
