Prime Minister Andy Burnham visits Cornwall

Prime Minister Andy Burnham visited Cornwall in August as part of a round of visits across the UK. His visit included unveiling a £65 million funding package for farmers, following a record-breaking summer of heatwaves raising fears of an increase in food prices for consumers. His visit included Colwyn Farm, a family-run farm at Perranwell Station.

The Prime Minister extended an offer to Cornwall Council leaders and Cornwall’s six MPs to attend a discussion at No. 10 North to begin the process of agreeing a devolution deal for Cornwall build around Cornwall as a single foundation strategic authority.

In conversation with Jayne Kirkham, MP for Truro and Falmouth, Andy Burnham commented: “The time is right for Cornwall press ahead with its own devolved power – the invitation is there to Cornwall’s MP and the Leader of the Council to get around the table and agree a devolution deal for Cornwall.

“Cornwall is a jewel in the UK’s crown, but it could be more, and with more power in your hands, you could make it more.”
